About

A hobbyist taking photography more seriously

I loved photography in high school and had access to a darkroom through college. After graduating it took 10 years before I had a camera in my hand again. Over the last few years I have been seeking out opportunities to become better. The next step is creating a website…

For the past couple years I have been printing in the darkroom at The Weston Collective in Monterey. I have been exploring how some of the qualities inherent to analog photography can transform our subjects. Time, sequence, metaphor, texture, and abstraction coming together with technique and method. I hope to create departures from our own experience that viewers can find themselves occupying and wanting to explore deeper

I shoot film (4×5 and MF) and digital. Each medium has a different approach that influences and shapes the images. With digital, experimentation is encouraged and the quick feedback fosters learning. With large format, the process becomes more calculated and thoughtful. The lessons from one art form help me to become better at the other. I make an attempt with my photography to transform scenes by photographic or digital means into images that others can, hopefully, enjoy

Well, that’s what I can pretend to be doing anyways, but really I’m just messing around

Cheers,

Sean
